About Us
A community
voice for dance in Fairfax County.
Vision
Make Fairfax County a center for dance excellence.
Mission
Grow awareness of, and participation in dance arts by students, audiences
and dance companies.
Background
In May 2008,
several dance studios and companies of Fairfax County (eventually the founding
organizations of the Fairfax County Dance Coalition) came together to address
performance venue issues facing the unique needs of the dance community.
They worked with the Northern Virginia Community College - Annandale Campus
Theatre to recommend renovations and improvements.
These eventual
founding organizations, in conjunction with the Arts Council of Fairfax
County, realized that they have common interests in working together:
growing the audience and support for dance in Fairfax County, improving the
performance venues available, and solving challenges to dance studios and
companies that individually are difficult to overcome.
Recognizing that
the performing arts have not been well supported in Fairfax County, and that
there is no current dance arts community type organization in Northern
Virginia, in June 2009, the group decided to form the Fairfax County Dance
Coalition with a strong relationship to the Arts Council of Fairfax County.
